The publication "Improving learning outcomes for all: Lessons Learned from capacity building of teachers of the deaf for inclusive classrooms in Tanzania" is based on the experiences collected during our cooperation with Archbishop Mihayo University College of Tabora.
In 2017, the African Studies Center Leiden/University of Leiden and the University of Applied Science of The Hague held a conference on “Education for Life in Africa”. Bernadatte Namirembe and Maria Brons had the opportunity to present a paper on Deaf Education in Tanzania, featuring the potential for a win-win situation for both hearing and deaf learners in an inclusive classroom.
The conference resulted in a book that was published in December 2018. The paper of Namirembe/Brons is entitled:
“Improving learning outcomes for all: Lessons Learned from Capacity Building of Teachers of the Deaf for Inclusive Classrooms in Tanzania.”(p.p.179-194)
In Tanzania, Kentalis has worked since 2012 on improving the quality of deaf education. From 2013 to 2019, Kentalis International and the Archbishop Mihayo University Center of Tabora cooperated in developing and implementing an innovative Bachelor for Teacher Training for Secondary Education, specializing in the deaf learner in an inclusive classroom. This publication is one out of two that is based on the experiences collected during this cooperation.
