Today is the book launch: Deaf Education beyond the Western World (2019) Oxford University Press, Eds.: H.Knoors, M. Brons, M. Marschark, at the CIES 2019 annual conference in San Francisco. Maria Brons, one of the editors of the book, will emphasize in her introduction that a book on Deaf education, covering countries in the so-called Global South, was long overdue. Educating the deaf learner is a very specialized and complex field of study, and is under-researched in many countries. It is important for the academicians on deaf education to reach out to regular education professionals in order to inform the discourse on inclusive education. Point of departure must be the question: which educational environment does the individual deaf learner need and best reflects his/her right to equitable quality education? We hope that educationalists who usually deal with general education, discover the importance of reaching out to those specialized in teaching the deaf, in all four 'corners' of the globe.
