method for curriculum based teaching of literacy
In our Reading Project we are developing a method for curriculum based teaching of literacy (and specifically reading) to young deaf children in Uganda and Tanzania. In December we trained 4 tutors in Uganda who have been co-training 24 teachers during our first teacher training week in Kampala at the end of January.
Besides understanding how children learn to read, and why this is so difficult for deaf learners we worked together on creating stories that help introduce topics, increase motivation, and that are of the right difficulty level. Teachers also spend time creating beautiful teaching materials that will help them teach their students.
