Hearing Loss in the Classroom

With Hearing Loss in the Classroom, we offer a course that aims to empower educators in screening and educating hard-of-hearing children.

Hearing loss is not always easy to recognize in children. That is why it is crucial to learn to recognize the signs. The sooner it is detected, the earlier the learning environment can be adjusted to a child's needs and they receive real access to learning.

What will you learn in this course?

This course equips you with the knowledge and skills to recognize hearing loss in children. You will also develop expertise in supporting and educating children with hearing loss, including educational adjustments, and support for pupils with hearing aids.

The course starts with the basics of audiology, including the anatomy of the hearing system, the signs and levels of hearing loss, and different methods that can be used to screen for hearing loss. Following, the course pays attention to advanced topics like audiology in the classroom, and communication and socio-emotional development. It also offers tools to promote positive awareness around hearing loss, in order to reduce the social stigma around it. Finally, you will learn how to practically apply your knowledge to adequately support hard-of-hearing children in their education.
