In 2025, Kentalis International Foundation is launching a project that builds upon previously made strong partnerships in Zambia, Cameroon, and Côte d'Ivoire. The project focuses on Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) and facilitates the exchange of knowledge on inclusive education across various African countries.

Project: Video Interaction Guidance - Guiding Connections
The project has several objectives:
- 1. Train professionals from Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire and Zambia in Video Interaction Guidance to support deaf learners.
- 2. Facilitate knowledge exchange between professionals working in inclusive education across Africa.
- 3. Discuss strategies for implementing VIG and use it to support deaf children in specifically inclusive education settings.
- 4. Strengthen connections and collaboration among African countries focused on inclusive education.
Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) is a proven method for promoting communication and learning. It involves recording short interactions between a child and a teacher, then reviewing the footage to identify moments of positive interaction and growth. Through these recordings, professionals can guide and improve their teaching techniques, ensuring they are responsive to the unique needs of each learner.

Training Event in Lusaka, Zambia
The training in VIG will take place towards the end of 2025 in Lusaka, Zambia. It brings together professionals from Cameroon and Côte d'Ivoire for a week-long event where they will learn how to integrate VIG into inclusive education settings. The training will be given by a combined team: experts from Royal Kentalis and professionals from Zambia.
The hands-on VIG training will focus on:
- Enhancing the learning environment through positive interaction.
- Strengthening the ability of professionals to assess and respond to the specific needs of deaf children.
- Incorporating VIG into existing methods for teaching early literacy and, in the broader sense, into inclusive education settings.
In addition, the training week will serve as an opportunity for:
- Networking and collaboration between educators, researchers, and advocates for deaf learners.
- Knowledge exchange on best practices for teaching deaf children in inclusive education environments.
- Shared experiences of the challenges and successes faced by professionals in different African countries.
With the increasing global trend towards inclusive education, this project addresses the need for professionals in Africa to discuss approaches to integrate deaf children into mainstream classrooms. We envision the Lusaka training to be a valuable platform for professionals to share their experiences and strategies for inclusive learning.
